I use this site a lot for testing out things. You could say that this site is Forever under construction. Today I have been testing again, and as a result, it looks more horrible in Internet Explorer. And since I am going on holidays, I am not going to fix it until next week. Sorry for the inconvenience.
I have been working on the menu. The whole page header is situated inside a <div>, with an inline ordered list with bottom border as menu. Until today, I did nothing to position the menu, which resulted that the menu walked outside the header if you changed the font size. Not too beautiful...
So today I relatively positioned the header, and specified an absolute position of the menu, so it is always at the border of the containing positioned element, the header. It solves the problem perfectly, but not in IE. I tested the new stylesheet in IE6, and the menu appeared at the bottom of the screen instead of the bottom of the header. I don't know yet why IE is behaving like this, but promise to look further into it next week.

Let's block access to IE6 and send give every browser application/xhtml+xml...
I have problems myself with IE and my site. And not only with the not supported object element, javascript MIME-type, javascript or even worse the PNG graphices.
My layout was based on a layout that works in Netscape4 and still some versions of IE6 have problems with it :). So I am with Jacques Distler now: http://golem.ph.utexas.edu/~distler/blog/archives/000215.html

Your new layout looks nice, but completely necks IE. So bad I have to reboot! IE sux, I agree, just too bad so many people use it!

Finally I see that your pages really look a lot better in Mozilla, Moz Firebird and Opera than in IE6. In IE5 its even better than in IE6! Weird! It's the same with my own site. It looks excellent in the three previously mentioned Gecko browsers and in IE5, but in IE 6 thingz start to happen. Why?
I've decided to let it slide. I cannot be bothered to serve Microsoft all kind of special treats for all its quirks! Then my site will just have to look a little different in IE 6. Too bad! I know it looks at its best in standards-compliant browsers!
Absolute positioning doesn't work correctlt in IE because IE does not support relative positioning, which means it ignores containers and positions according to the window/body regardless.
Although I am convinced that it should work, I removed all the layout code and went back to my old tabs. ;-(
It looks alright in most browsers, but when you resize the text the tabs walk out of the header. For Mozilla users this is one step back (they had perfect tabs), but for IE users this is a huge improvement (they had their tabs at the bottom of the screen).
Maybe one day if I have more time I am going to study this topic again.
Jeroen! I'm back on IE 5 and now have tas at the top. They jump up and down though when I hover (different font-sizes?)! Still, I like your new lay-out on the archives-pages with the blue "balk" at the top. And Brain tags sort of falls into the blue thingy, quit artistic, but maybe not quite intended?
